You might have noticed a certain color popping up everywhere this month – pink ribbons, pink outfits, even the NFL has donned pink accessories for the big game. As most of us know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and ARGI employees are making their best efforts to help the cause.
ARGI celebrates its 4th year of participating in Pinktober by raising awareness and donating to organizations that support breast cancer research and its survivors. This initiative was started in 2013 by Michael Moore and Jan Peebles, two ARGI employees who have been closely touched by breast cancer.
“It started out as a small effort, but the past few years have shown that this is a very personal issue to a lot of employees,” Peebles explains, “this is a disease that affects a lot of people in the ARGI family.”
But it doesn’t just stop with donations, employees are sharing their individual stories of how this cancer has touched their lives.
“Each day during the week of our October meeting, employees can wear pink in honor of family and friends diagnosed with breast cancer. They have the option to tell their stories of survivors and of those who have lost their battle in a company-wide email- I Wear Pink Today To Honor. We also have a Pink-Out for our company wide meeting, in which we encourage those not participating in our Halloween costume contest to sport their pink attire.”
In its first year, ARGI focused their efforts towards the American Cancer Society. In 2014 and 2015, ARGI partner and financial advisor, Neil Quinlan, CFP®, and wife Amy Quinlan helped the firm discover a Louisville based organization: Twisted Pink. Since 2013, ARGI employees have helped raise over $4,000 towards breast cancer research, and this year our goal was to match that amount, with a special cause in mind.
This Pinktober, ARGI was able to raise over $5,000 in honor of one of our own employees who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. The money raised will be donated in her name to four charities that support breast cancer survivors and their families: Jill’s Wish in Louisville, KY; Gilda’s Club in Grand Rapids; the Megan S. Ott Foundation in Indianapolis; and I Have Wings based outside of Cincinnati.
