Recently, our company established an employee charitable program, ARGI Gives. Through this program we hope to improve the lives of other members of our local communities by sharing our time and talents. ARGI strives to impact not only the Louisville community, but at each and every office of the firm.

This quarter, the entire Grand Rapids office took time out of their day to lend a helping hand by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity of Kent County. GR H4H 9

On August 24, the group set out for the West Grand neighborhood of Grand Rapids. After starting with a short prayer, the ARGI team and a group of retirees and volunteers, got to work by painting, remodeling and making some finishing details to a home for a very special family.

“The family that will live in this home have children with severe allergies,” Jamie Berens, Client Service Manager said. “It was great to know our team helped work on this project so those children can enjoy a home free of products that currently cause them allergies on a daily basis. It’s really meaningful to know that we were helping a family gain a home right here in our community.”

While some of the volunteers were learning new tricks of the trade, some of our team members were excited to utilize some of the skills they’ve learned working on their own houses.

GR H4H 10“I really enjoyed being able to take some of the knowledge I’ve gained remodeling my home over the years and give it back to charity,” Ray Llewellyn, Financial Advisor said. “It was a nice change of pace, and I really enjoyed working with the retired volunteers on putting down flooring and trim work around the house.”

“It was a cool experience, and it was really interesting to learn what is required of families looking to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home,” added Denise Butts, Client Service Administrator.

H4H makes sure that families looking for a home earn them, and it is no walk in the park. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into purchasing a Habitat home. In addition to applying for a home, applicants must attend meetings, workshops and classes regarding the program, and put at least 275 sweat equity volunteer hours into other H4H houses to qualify.

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is simple: to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. For many families in West Michigan, the dream of homeownership seems unattainable. Habitat for Humanity empowers these families by helping make their dreams a reality and break the cycle of poverty in the Grand Rapids community.GR H4H 1

The dedication of this home will be scheduled soon and members of the team plan to attend to see the efforts of the labor. ARGI Grand Rapids wishes to volunteer again for the organization, and help make a positive imprint on the Northern community.
